Six years ago, I was feeding Kellen in her high chair and watching the Today show, and it was a normal morning like any other. Then, Matt and Katie said that something had happened and were going to show us live footage of the Trade Towers. Normal life changed at that moment.
I remember calling Kyle throughout the day, giving him updates about what had happened and wanting him to come home. It all seemed to be in slow motion. I cannot even imagine what it must have been like in NYC, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. We did not know anyone personally, but lots of friends of friends. One of the flight attendants lived in our town. The company that Kyle works for now (he did not work there then) had their offices on the 88th and 89th floors of the South Tower. Only a few survived.
After 9/11, I also remember the kindness and the goodwill from the entire world. I remember honoring our own firefighters and policemen and praying for all the families who lost loved ones. I remember being so proud of our nation in that time of crisis. At that moment, everyone was truly equal, there was no difference in race, class or religion.
Sometimes that day seems so long ago and sometimes it feels like yesterday. I hope we never forget.

i don't know how anyone could forget what they were doing six years ago... hard to believe it's been that long already. life moves so quickly. i'm glad to stop and remember - at least through this tragedy our nation came together.
hugs~
I'll never forget. We were on our way to Aunt Kathy's mother's burial. It was surreal. When I got back to school, my 6th graders wanted to watch the news all afternoon - so not like 6th graders! I was proud of the concern and compassion they showed during that time. I also remember calling you throughout the day and worrying about Julia in DC. Momma
