So, this wasn't the best week. I have been sick (every year around this time my Connecticut based allergies kick in!) and Jenna has had Kindergarten meltdowns. She really likes school, but it is a big adjustment from nursery school. She is one of those kids that does not fight bedtime. If she's tired, she wants to go to bed. School is just wearing her out. I expected her to be tired, but I have been surprised by the meltdowns. On Tuesday she got off the bus and cried for about 30 minutes all because I asked her how her day was. It's heartbreaking.
I figured out, though, that if I don't ask her how her day went and I just start out by telling her how glad I am that she is home and that Riley and I really missed her and I just wait to talk about school that she doesn't have the meltdown. Until bedtime. At that point she is just so tired she can't stand it. It hasn't helped that every night this week has been a late night. Monday-soccer, Tuesday-Open House, Wednesday-dance. Last night just seemed so bad because I was sick.
That's life, though. And now, hopefully, we will have a great weekend. We get to start it off by having our date night! The girls get to have their sleepover, so that should make them happy. Tomorrow the girls both play soccer, this time the games are at different times, so I'll get to see them both. Then, it will be back to Maddie and Beth's house for Maddie's birthday party. She is having a tea party and the girls are going to dress up and have to come up with formal names for the "introduction", like Duchess Kellen Von HorseGirl and Princess Jenna from Mermaidia and Countess Riley McPlaysalot. It should be a lot of fun.
Of course, we have football to watch. I am sure with the wonderful season that UT is having that the Arkansas game will not be on TV, so we will probably be spending our evening at the sports bar. I don't know about the Colts v. the Texans, so we might be having lunch there as well! We can't miss the games.
We are also going to try to squeeze in trips to the corn maze (I promise to get pictures this time) and Stew Leonards. Busy but fun.
I am ordering Jenna's birthday presents today. She is getting Coconut and Licorice from American Girl. She will be thrilled. Kyle did get our Little Mermaid on Broadway tickets, but that will be a Christmas present because it was sold out until March! I am so excited, though, and Kellen and Jenna will be beside themselves. I think it will definitely be something they will never forget.
Now I have to go clean house, because after being sick for two days my house looks like it threw up on itself! I don't know how we have so much laundry and how the dishes can pile up so quickly. Luckily, I have a wonderful husband who picked up dinner last night and did the dishes for me. He also took over the bedtime routine and threw in a load of laundry before work this morning. Thank you, Kyle.
I am definitely glad its Friday.
