Boy, did we have a busy weekend. By Sunday night, Kyle and I were just plain exhausted. We had fun, though.
Our weekend started off with the sleepover. The girls went to Maddie and Beth's house and Kyle and I went out to dinner at a new Mexican restaurant in a town nearby. It was sooo good. We can't wait to go back. Then we went back to pick Riley up. She was so tired that she had been crying, but did not want to leave. She held my hand the whole way home and conked out the minute I put her in her crib.
Saturday morning both Kellen and Jenna had soccer games (well, Kellen had a game and Jenna played games). Jenna was first and she is one of two girls on her little team. It was so funny because they played one game where the coach would yell "Crash!" and the kids were supposed to fall on the ground. Jenna and the other little girl refused to fall on the ground, Heaven forbid they get dirty! Kellen did so well at her game. It has taken her awhile to get the concept of soccer but she held her position and its no longer a bunch of little girls just running around the ball, they are actually passing and playing defense. It is amazing to watch the transformation.
As soon as Kellen's game was over (they won, by the way 3-0!), we rushed home so they could get ready for Maddie's birthday party. The party was a fancy tea party so they wore some of their finest dresses complete with tiaras and as much play jewelry that they could put on.
My friend Lisa had done such a great job with the party, she had all kinds of tea party food like cucumber sandwiches, scones, fruit with real whipped cream, strawberry lemonade "tea" and other yummy goodies. The girls walked in on a red carpet that she taped to the floor and were announced by Maddie's dad with their "princess" names. They ate to a playlist of Disney music including the Mad Hatter's Unbirthday song. They made fans and got "ruby" rings. Instead of a cake, Lisa had made teacup cookies. They really had fun.
By the time we got home, though, the girls were so tired. We had one major meltdown with a double time-out, but after that they were pretty good. We did not go to the sports bar because we were just too worn out, but we watched a football movie (Gridiron Gang - very good) and kept up with the game on the computer.
On Sunday, after lunch, we went back to the corn maze. We got some cute pictures this time. Then we headed to Stew Leonard's, which is a destination grocery store. They call themselves the Disneyland of grocery stores. They weren't kidding. Throughout the store they have talking and singing cows, bananas, tomatoes, dolls that swing and flip and all kinds of stuff. They gave out samples of just about everything. The girls thought it was amazing. Most of the food they sell is their own label, so if you wanted certain brands you would be out of luck. So far, everything we have tried has been great. Its a little on the gourmet side and everything is pretty fresh - not a lot of processed foods. You can buy things like a 10 pound sirloin and have the butcher cut it there for you. Its definitely the kind of place you would shop before a party or if you could plan your meals a month ahead of time and go there and get all your meat to freeze.
Of course the Colts were playing during our trips to the maze and grocery store, so we didn't watch that game either. Thank goodness, both UT and the Colts won this week. My fantasy team did not fair so well, but Kyle won overall for the week. Gloater.
Yesterday, I got to volunteer in Jenna's class. I don't get to go a lot since little bit is still at home, but Lisa and Beth came over to watch Riley, so I could go. I love going in to see how they interact with other kids and to see what they are up to. Jenna was such a good girl and her artwork is great! I was really busy doing stuff for her teacher and playing a game with the kids that I didn't have much interaction with Jenna while I was there, but it was great to see what she does while she is at school.
Kellen had soccer practice last night and instead of starting at 6:00, its now at 5:30 because its already starting to get dark early here. The temperature has warmed back up this week, so were are back in shorts! I hate when the temp fluctuates up and down like that. I am ready to put those warm clothes away!
Today is my dad's birthday, so Happy Birthday to him! I hope you have a great day.
