Jenna's birthday is coming up quick and for the second year in a row, she wants a mermaid theme. We will have two parties, one for friends and one for family. For her friend party, I am going to make a mermaid cake and octopus cookies to give out as favors. Hopefully, they will turn out okay and I can share the pictures. For the family party she wants a princess castle cake. Luckily, I have lots of cake decorating books with lots of ideas and how-to's!
Both Kellen and Jenna are really into their American Girl dolls, so she will probably get clothes and accessories to go with that. Plus, my mom has been recruited to make "the two prettiest dresses there ever were", which according to Jenna are Ariel's wedding dress and pink dress from The Little Mermaid. They are cartoon dresses. Need I say more?
My mom is making them, though, and I am sure they will be great. She asked for the dresses from me and Kyle, but from my parents she wants a pink mermaid costume. This isn't for Halloween, just her personal collection. For the past two years, she was a mermaid for Halloween. The first year my mom made her a costume that she could walk in, she was devastated. Mermaids can't walk. So...last year she was a "real" mermaid, meaning her feet didn't show. Kyle had a great time carrying her door-to-door.
This year she is diverting from the mermaid obsession and she is going to be the "prettiest princess in the whole world" (everything is so dramatic), but I think that is only because she has to walk in the Halloween parade at school!
Oh, Jenna! She is really quite the girly-girl. And truthfully, I love every minute of it! The Little Mermaid is being made into a Broadway show and I have to check into getting tickets. That would be the highlight of her little life.
Tonight is Open House at the girl's school. Its just for 1st and 2nd grade, since the Kindergarten already did their thing. I am excited to meet Kellen's teacher. Kellen really seems to like her which is always what you want to hear. They had caterpillars that made chrysalis's and are turning into butterflies and she can't wait to show us those. Kellen really enjoys science and animals. She wants to be a veterinarian on the days when she doesn't want to be an archaeologist!
It has gotten pretty cool up here. The girls are now wearing long sleeves and sweaters. I think the days of shorts has come and gone. Pretty soon we are going to have to start making fires in the fireplace and the wood stove. I love driving down the street and seeing smoke coming out of every chimney. One of my favorite things about New England is the cold weather and getting really bundled up. I can't wait for snow.
I hear Riley waking up, so now its off to give her breakfast and our big outing for the morning is the grocery store. Soon, we are going to go to the new Stew Leonard's, which is really like destination grocery shopping. That will have to wait for another day.

Rebecca,
I am so glad you are doing this. It enables me to see the girls, hear about your life, and keep up with all your family outings. How much fun you seem to be having raising your family! The day to day operations plus events in their lives. You are really lucky to be able to be a stay at home wife and mother and your family is lucky you are willing to do so! The things New England offers, apple and pumpkin picking, fall and cooler temperatures, and snow mulitple times of the year are so different from the south.
The Vols...what a disappointment and embarrassment...nothing else needs to be said! I wore black to church on Sunday! Oh well, we will never loose the faith but that type of beating was terrible!
Looking forward to more pics of "the most beautiful dresses and costumes" in the world!
Love,
Aunt Rebecca
I can't believe it is already cooler there! It is in the upper 80's here in Nashville. Funny that Laura is living in the hottest state and you are living in of the coolest!
Your girls are adorable!
Love,
Courtney
The Ariel dresses and mermaid costume are done. I also made Jenna's American Girl doll a mermaid outfit. I hope she likes them. I sure am having fun making them. I'm really getting excited about the Halloween costume. Emory "wants" to be a flower in a flower pot. I have a vision in my head - I hope it can come to reality. I'm anxious to make the pig costume for Riley too. The ballerina for Kellen will also be fun. Momma
