The Perfect Day

Ok, so Kyle wasn't home, but we still had the most perfect snow day ever.

I hope I never take advantage of a "bonus" day ever again. Even though the girls bedrooms and playroom were a disaster and I had a mountain of laundry (I use past tense here when I should be using present as things are still just as messy today!), I not once even uttered the words, "Go clean your...". It took just about all of my self control not to have them utilize some of the extra time at home to do "chore-like activities". Instead, though, we had the best day.

They did paint their treasure chests and I let them play with moon sand. {For those of you who don't know what moon sand is, think crumbly play-doh. DO NOT purchase moon sand. It is not worth the time or money spent. As Kellen said yesterday, "This does NOT work like it shows on TV. Why would they lie?" Good lesson learned, though.} I almost never let them play with moon sand, but yesterday ~ bring it on!

We made the marshmallows and had a great time. Riley was napping, so it was just me and #1 and #2. We talked and they wanted to hear all about my Mammaw (who could rival Miss Deen any day) and what kind of things she used to make from scratch. They are such good girls. Unfortunately, we had to let the marshmallows sit overnight. I did "sneak" and cut a few pieces to put in their hot chocolate. They thought that was great ~ that Mommy would actually break the rules to let them have some!

And we played outside! It was perfect snow to play in because it was sticky. Last year, it was so cold all the time that the snow wouldn't stick and you couldn't even make a snowball. We ended up getting about 6.5 inches of snow. LOVE IT! We made a lovely little snowgirl. Even Riley got to out and play (usually she is napping or something) and my little snow bunnies had a great time. I helped the girls put the snowgirl together and got them our snowman kit, but then I had to bring Riley in because her little hands were so cold. Kellen and Jenna finished decorating her and played some more. Riley watched from the window while Jenna threw snowballs at her. They are so funny.

We had our hot chocolate and cuddled on the couch watching our favorite family viewing ~a Food Network challenge. The girls even did thank you notes.

The day just reminded me that time goes by so fast and that I want to take advantage of every opportunity to make memories with the girls. Sometimes I just feel that all I do is rush them around to all the different activities and that we are always in a hurry. There just never seems to be enough time to do the "fun" things in life ~ it's always homework and laundry and dishes and what's for dinner and oh no, we're late to dance/basketball/school/girl scouts, etc.

While we were making the marshmallows, Kellen told me that it was the best day ever. And I totally agree.

I LOVE Riley's snowsuit! She reminds me of Ralphie's little brother on a Christmas Story! You are such a great mom, I know the girls will have so many great memories as they get older!
