Narnia, Come to Life

We have had the craziest weather lately. On Wednesday and Thursday our temps were in the 60's! I live in Connecticut, for goodness sake! On Friday we had thunderstorms. With lightning. When I first moved up north, 10 years ago, we barely had thunderstorms. Nothing like those summer storms I grew up with in the South. In the past few years, though, we have had huge heat-generated storms during the summer. Notice I said summer, not the middle of January. I am going to have to move to Vermont.

But this morning my wish came true. We woke up to the most glorious sight. Snow everywhere. It is literally dripping from the trees. I woke up to laughter and shrieks of excitement from Kellen and Jenna. Kellen came rushing into our bedroom with a "You've got to see this!" Of course, according to her, the view was better in her room. So off we go and as we look out the window, she says, "It looks just like Narnia!" And she's right. I'm just waiting for the talking beaver to come running out of the woods.

It is beautiful. I could truly just sit on the couch with a good book and a cup of something warm and just watch the snow come down for hours.
However, I have three excited little girls (who are having a pretty hard time moving away from the window themselves!). So, on our to-do list for this wonderful snow day is:

*Make S'mores muffins (I picked these up during our trip to Tennessee last summer at Mercier Orchards in Georgia. Yummy, yummy, yummy.)

*Paint treasure chests. (Whenever the girls are sick and actually have to take medicine, I let them pick out a {cheap} toy from the pharmacy. The last time we were there, we found a treasure chest kit from Melissa & Doug that was on sale and we have been saving them for a snow day.
*Make homemade marshmallows (I found this kit before Christmas. We have been waiting for a day like today to try it out.)

*Play in the snow (no explanation needed)

*Warm up with hot chocolate and marshmallows!

*Finish writing Christmas thank-you notes

I hope we fit it all in. So far, we have made the muffins. And I am getting ready to roll out the paper tablecloth to do the treasure chests.

The only bad thing about the snow? Driving to work in it. I'm sorry, Kyle. Soon, though, after he has been at the new job longer than a month, maybe he can work from home on days like today instead of having to get up and snowblow the driveway!

Then it will be a truly perfect day.

I was thinking about you guys this morning as Sam Champion (GMA weatherman) did the weather from Hartford. I knew you would get to have a great day with your little snow bunnies.
