Bragging Rights

We had another crazy and busy weekend. It started out with a student art show at our local Art Center. Kellen had a piece of artwork on display! Her self-portrait was chosen along with 34 others out of her entire school. She also has a still life framed and on display in the hallway at her school. She really does have an artistic flare and has great attention to detail. She DID NOT get this from me, but from my mom and sister. I still draw stick figures. I am so proud of her.
This weekend was also our Maple Festival. And how did Mother Nature respond? With torrential rain, freezing temperatures and heavy winds. Niiiice.
So my little Brownies and I (and a couple of moms, thank God!) stood out in the middle of it trying to sell cookies. And, if I do say so myself, Kellen is quite the little salesgirl (That she DOES get from me and the family genes - over 1,000,000 Reedy Dogs sold!). There was almost no one out during the midst of the rain except about 22 brave souls and Kellen sold at least a box to each one!
On Sunday, we ventured back out to Maple Fest and so did everyone else. It was so crowded because the weather was beautiful (except for that heavy wind). Kyle's dad came and went with us, so the girls were super-hyper. All the maple sugar didn't help.
And again, Kyle and I end the weekend exhausted.
We are also trying out a new discipline/consequence system in our house, since what we were doing before clearly wasn't working. Believe me - that sassiness comes much earlier than teenage years! So now we are trying a 5 strike system. At the beginning of each week, Kyle and I plan a fun outing for the weekend and tell the girls what it is. Last weekend's was Maplefest, this weekend is the movies, but it could be something as simple as going to the park or out for ice cream. The girls DO NOT get to go if they have gotten 5 strikes during the week. This week was pretty close - Kellen and Jenna both got 4 strikes! By the end of the week, I think they were starting to "get it". This morning's before school routine was fantastic. No one was running late and K and J didn't fight or utter a snarky remark even once! So we will see....
Anyway - here's to a brand new week. I hope its not as nuts as the last one.
