The girls were out of school on Monday for Columbus Day and they were out of school yesterday for an inservice day, so that meant I got a day off, too. I always appreciate those days when they don't have school because that means we aren't rushing around trying to get somewhere and we can stay in our pj's all morning [or all day ; )]. It was especially nice to have the day off after our weekend getaway.
And since my parents were here, the house was clean (thanks, Momma) and we got to have a pretty lazy day. My friend Lisa stopped by with Maddie and Beth to drop something off and so we ended up having an impromptu playdate and lunch buddies. That is another bonus to the day off because you never know what fun things might happen!
Of course, after being home with each other for 4 straight days, Kellen and Jenna were really getting on each other's nerves. Lots of afternoon fighting. That makes me appreciate going back to school.
After two weeks of unseasonably warm weather, it has finally cooled off again here. I really hope it stays this way. It makes me crazy to have the leaves falling while putting the girls in shorts.
Riley and I have joined a playgroup here in town and today we were supposed to go on a hayride but it was raining, so we just went to the regular meeting. She is so funny because on the first day she sat at the head of the table for snack, so she thinks that's her seat now. She will go sit in that seat well before snack time so no other kid can sit in it. She is also obsessed with the phone and shoes. She walks around the house in my shoes with the phone cradled in her neck jabbering away to "My-Mama" and "My-Papa" (Granmomma and Grandaddy) while pushing the stroller with her baby in it and carrying a purse. Too funny, but at least she's learning to multitask! (By the way, Riley is wearing Kellen's old t-shirt in the picture above, she is NOT a big sister and she will NOT be a big sister, so no reading into anything!)
Kellen, Jenna and I finished Beezus and Ramona for our Kids Book Club tomorrow. I'm hosting here at the house, so the girls are excited about that. After Running With Scissors, my book club read a Debbie Macomber book, The Shop on Blossom Street. Its not a typical book club book, but it was very easy to read on the plane! Our next book is Middlesex, I think. I guess I need to start that one soon. I don't know anything about it except that it was recently the topic of an Oprah show.
Today my Aunt Johanna is having breast cancer surgery. If you are reading this, please send good thoughts and prayers her way!
