We started off the holiday weekend by having a big yummy breakfast, full of chocolate chip pancakes and seriously the best bacon in the whole world. We lazed around and then got ready for the pool. It was a really overcast day and we pretty much had it all to ourselves. The girls had a lot of fun showing off what they had learned to Kyle.
Which, by the way, has been a lot. Thursday, on the way to the pool, I gave the girls goals to try to reach by the end of the summer. Kellen's was to actually swim BY HERSELF with no noodle, no kickboard. Jenna's was to swim the entire length of the pool without stopping to hold onto the lane line or the side of the pool. If they accomplished these goals by the end of summer, I would take them to the toy store and let them each pick something out. They both did it by the end of the day. That day.
So much for hard to reach goals.
Actually, I kind of lied to you Internet. We actually started the holiday weekend Thursday night by going to see Kit Kittredge An American Girl with Lisa, Maddie and Beth. We met for pizza beforehand and then headed to the theater. The girls all brought their dolls and I have to tell you - it was fantastic. The movie was wonderful and I think they actually learned something. There was a sad part and I looked over at Kellen and she and Maddie were holding hands. Precious.
So that brings us back to the next day when we had our yummy breakfast and day at the pool. Since it was the Fourth, the lifeguards had been having lots of games for the kids and one of the games (we got there smack in the middle of this) was a scavenger hunt for dollars that were hidden all over the club. The head lifeguard was giving out clues over the loudspeaker. While all this was going on, the girls were swimming with Kyle and I had a shrieking monkey aka Riley permanently attached to my neck. The girls finally caught on that they were having this scavenger hunt and Jenna got out of the pool walked over to a tree and literally just found a dollar. Hilarious. The whole group that had been looking for this particular dollar was on their third clue. And Jenna just found it. She has Kyle's luck and my klutziness. Bless her.
We thought about going out to see fireworks that night, but decided to wait until Saturday. Instead, we continued on with our regular Friday night movie. Our selection this time? Camp Rock ~ a Disney Channel original movie ~ starring the Jonas Brothers. Oh yes. Kellen is in love. Remember my fake boyfriend list from months ago? Well, Kellen's has officially begun. Just you wait all you other mothers of girls. Your time will come.
Saturday was completely jam-packed. We painted pottery. We cooked out. We ran errands. We saw Wall-E (LOVED IT!! So might be my new favorite Pixar movie.). And, we watched fireworks. Well, Kyle, Kellen and I watched fireworks. Jenna and Riley slept through the whole thing.
Sunday, there was lots of cleaning. And laundry. And Lifetime movies. (Why oh why, do I get sucked in?) Riley took a long nap; Sunday's plus Saturday's missed one. Kyle took K and J back to the pool (Hence my ability to watch those Lifetime movies. Like I'm not getting enough Tori Spelling already.) Then, it was ice cream and dinner. And K and J getting up a thousand times after going to bed because they can't sleep *insert lots of whining here* and they might have nightmares.
And today, I'm paying for it. There is not a lot of listening going on. We had to leave the pool early because a certain eight year old was being a little miss sassy-pants. ("You are so mean, Mommy!") And the fighting. You would think they moonlight as wrestlers or something. Jenna hit Kellen, Kellen pushed Jenna, Riley bit Jenna. Fun times.
So here we are. At home. Kellen lost Wii for the week, they are already showered and in pj's (well, except for Jenna, who currently is wearing "the prettiest princess dress, ever" over the pj's), Riley is napping and I am typing at the computer.
And they are going to bed early. So there.

Sounds like very busy weekend! We had our ultrasound last week and it looks like I am joining you in the moms of girls club! You need to get on Facebook so that we can communicate more. It is easy and there are a ton of AX's on there.
Tell everyone hello for me!
So I'm guessing you could use a day off? Bless your heart and your motivation.
Emory will never act like that. HA! I think she already does, she's such a flirt.
I might have to stop reading your blog b.c it scares me. I keep thinking maybe it will get easier when Eileen can eat and bathe herself, and talk more. hmm... maybe not! :) Keep giving us hints on how to me a good girl mommy!
