OK, so I really slacked last month on my thankful list. I had a good excuse, though. Kellen and Jenna were cast last spring as Marta and Gretl Von Trapp in a production of The Sound of Music. I didn't blog about it on here because I didn't want any crazies finding us! It's over now and life is getting back to normal. Since September, our lives have consisted of rushing home from school for a whirlwind of homework, chores, dinner to rushing out for practice (which sometimes lasted until 11:00 pm). Then there were the 10 performances and lots of company. It was the most wonderful, exhilarating, proudest, exhausting time of our lives! And really, truly I am so proud of my little family. K and J were so GOOD. They were amazing in the play but also in how well they handled this chaotic time! Riley was such a good sport, not having us home at night and not being a part of it. She was so proud of her sisters and she won over the entire cast. Kyle started a new job during all of this and was basically working around the clock so that he could be here with Riley at night while I was at practice with the big girls. We all pulled together and I couldn't be more happy.
Luckily, we had the Thanksgiving break right after to get back on a normal schedule and ease back into normal life. Just in time for Christmas!
We are big into traditions here and one of our favorite Christmas traditions is to countdown to the big day.
We do the Chocolate Countdown Calendar. My grandmother gave me and my sisters one every year, so I get one for the girls.
We have a snowman that counts down the days.
Kellen got this candy cane countdown years ago from a girl scout craft fair. They LOVE this one!
And this year, I made a new one. Each day has a different activity for the girls to do to get ready for the BIG day.
This was Day One. The activity was for the girls to make yet another countdown...paper chain garlands!
Day TWO was to make bird feeders. I had some pears that were well beyond their prime, so we covered them in peanut butter and birdseed.
My hope is to post our activity of the day each day...we'll see how well I do!
